Gen Z’s Vision: A World Without Borders or Labels

I actually remember being a teen in the late '90s and having a similar thought—not the genderless part, but the idea of living without borders. Just going from one place to another, no restrictions, no governments, just pure freedom. Back then, I thought that’s what freedom meant—no laws, no control, just people running wild and doing whatever they wanted. It sounded nice.

But now? Looking at the world as it is, I can’t help but think... letting this species run wild and free with no rules or identity? Yeah, I can already picture the Netflix horror movie.

Freedom has always been my ultimate goal. Ever since I was a kid, I just wanted to do whatever I wanted, whenever I pleased. Maybe that constant craving for freedom shaped my decisions as a young adult. And even now, as a middle-aged woman, I can still say freedom is at the core of how I live. But my definition of it? That has changed drastically over the years. I’m not sure if it has come full circle yet, but it feels close.

Now, pause for a second. Ask yourself: What does "freedom" mean to you right now, in this exact moment?

Done? Good. Keep that answer to yourself.

Here’s the thing—true freedom requires complete detachment. Can you detach from the people you love? Can you let go of your bad habits? Can you separate yourself from everything that shaped you into who you are?

In my eyes, there’s no such thing as absolute freedom. Nothing in life is truly infinite or absolute, and freedom is no exception. Even if you were granted every right, you believe you’re entitled to, you’d still make choices, form attachments, and create limitations for yourself. So, sorry to burst your bubble, but absolute freedom is a myth.

Now, take your own definition of freedom and dig deeper. What does it really mean for you in today’s world? You—Gen Z—are the ones who will soon be running the world. Your early 20s are the time to define and understand these ideas so that when the moment comes, you’re truly ready.

Love & Peace
